Pros
- Small Size – Because mini-splits are compact systems, they offer greater flexibility and built-in zoning for individual rooms.
- Ease of Installation – Mini-split installation is much simpler than central air conditioning installation because the former only requires a small hole in the wall for the conduit rather than complex ductwork.
- Energy Efficiency – Mini-splits are an energy efficient option because energy isn’t lost as it is with systems that have ductwork. In addition, you can turn on a mini-split in one room without consuming energy in a room you aren’t currently using.
Cons
- Higher Upfront Cost – Mini-split installation costs more than installation for other types of air conditioners, so it may not be a viable option for everyone.
- Appearance – Many homeowners are not fond of how mini-splits look in their homes because they are more conspicuous than central air conditioning.
- Lower Filtration – Mini-splits have filtration, but they are not as effective as other units.
